Sunny Florida on the Atlantic Coast is well known for beautiful sunny beaches and Disney Parks and cruise ship departures and great golf courses, just to mention a few details. Don’t be fooled by Florida’s sunny nickname. It is also the nation’s lightning capital and sees some wild hurricane attacks. The humidity is so high you’ll get used to your head being a giant frizz ball every day.
Becoming a Beach Person. You can probably be at a beach within 20 minutes from anywhere considering that Florida has the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other.
Don’t get lost in the swamps. Everglades National Park is truly like no other park. You can go from swamps to jungle, prairies, forests and estuaries all within the park borders. Just be on the lookout for gators, iguanas and pythons.

The World’s Biggest Beach Party. People often think of Miami as South Beach with great beaches, outstanding restaurants, nightlife and fun, and you live here. Florida is a great melting pot of people from all over who come here to retire and enjoy a leisurely lifestyle and Floribbean cuisine, which has a Florida twist on other cuisines, often with Southern, Caribbean and Asian influences.
Snowbirds. These are people who come from other more wintery states to live here part of the year and escape freezing temperatures.
Auto Racing. Auto racing is immensely popular. The Daytona 500 is held right here in Florida at the Daytona International Speedway. Floridians get more than a little excited about it, so you’ll catch the fever pretty quick.
The Space Industry. Houston, TX has not cornered the market on the Space Industry. At the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex you can live out your sci-fi dream and see what it’s like to be an astronaut, take a tour of the space center and if you’re really lucky you’ll even see a real shuttle launching into outer space.
Venice in America. The Venice of America is right in Fort Lauderdale with 160 miles of inter-coastal waterways to explore or even choose to live on or take a water tour of celebrity homes.
Key West. Fabulous Key West with shopping, dining, and entertainment has everything and is very walkable.
